1963 356 B
1963 Porsche 356 B
The Porsche 356 as the company’s first production automobile. It was a lightweight and nimble handling rear-engine rear-wheel-drive 2 door sports car. In 1955, with numerous small but significant changes, the 356A was introduced. In late 1959, more significant styling and technical refinements gave rise to the 356B. The last revision of the 356 was the 356C introduced for the 1964 model year. 356 production peaked at 14,151 cars in 1964—the same year that its successor, the new 911, was introduced to the US market.
Affectionately known as the “Bathtub” Porsche, this 1963 Model 356 B is a unique and irresistible sportscar. High-set bumpers and enlarged windows marked the production Porsche 356 B introduced for 1960. Despite a steadily rising sales demand, Porsches were still built patiently and largely by hand, including the 356 B, which was sold until 1963. She cost roughly $4,200 in 1963. A tidy sum.
Today these early four-cylinder models are highly coveted by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.
