1974 Corvette Convertible
1974 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
This 1974 Corvette Convertible underwent a complete – frame-up – restoration four years ago. We haven’t driven it since. Woefully underpowered, the 1974 Corvette was perhaps the lowest point of performance for any Corvette since made. With only 195 horsepower on tap – any hybrid car today would outrun it – but the charm of the mid 70’s Corvettes is not lost on many collectors.
The 1974 Corvette had several interesting tidbits as well. It was the last year before the big block engine (the 454) was phased out. It is the first year of the chrome bumpers – either front or rear and the urethane bumper at the rear of the car was two piece (or split rear bumper) – the 1975 Corvette had a one piece rear bumper. This was also the last year without a catalytic converter. The color black was not ordered in 1974 or 1975 – presumably because the quality of the fiberglass was so poor?
