1987 GNX
1987 Buick GNX
Perhaps the most iconic of all 80′s muscle cars, this 1987 Buick GNX is quite rare. Only 547 were made, and it is often confused with its lesser brethren, the Grand National. Already a rare car in its day, the GNX is a collector’s item today.
Grossly underrated at 276 horsepower, the GNX was faster to 60 mph than the Chevrolet Corvette in 1987. Performance was measured with a 0-60 mph time of 4.7 seconds and a quarter mile time of 13.5 seconds at 102 mph.
Customers had little choice in what their GNX would look like; it was available in any color you wanted as long as it was black. Now where did we hear that before? The stealthy appearance of an all-black GNX and Grand National, coupled with the fact that the Grand National was initially release during the height of the Star Wars craze, lead to the title of “Darth Vader’s Car.” Car and Driver even covered the GNX model’s introduction with the headline, “Lord Vader, your car is ready.”
Our example has only 150 miles since new. In fact, the window sticker is still on the passenger side window.
