1991 Acura NSX
The NSX was a revolutionary super-car built by Honda and branded as Acura in the United States. It’s mid-engine, rear wheel drive layout helped it achieve outstanding handling characteristics. It’s engine was an all-aluminum V6 with Variable Valve Timing and Lift Control (VTEC). The engine was also the first production engine to feature titanium connecting rods for sustained high rpm performance.
When Honda began the development on the NSX, they told their engineers that this had to be as good as the best cars coming out of Germany and Italy, quite a lofty goal for Honda at that time. In addition to outstanding performance, Honda of course expected superior reliability and a low (relative to the competition) price point. After years of hard work, the NSX was released and met all of those goals.
There were a couple famous names that contributed to the development of this car, such as Aryton Senna and Bobby Rahal.
Today the NSX is still considered by owners to be one of the most reliable exotic cars ever manufactured, with many examples exceeding 100,000 miles without serious reliability issues or having suffered manufacturer recalls. Despite the original NSX ceasing production in 2005, the marque still has a strong base of fans and supporters worldwide with owners clubs flourishing in Asia, the USA and across Europe.
